What is Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD) ?

Peripheral artery disease (PAD) is a chronic condition that occurs when arteries narrow or become blocked, reducing blood flow to the legs or arms. It's usually caused by atherosclerosis, a buildup of plaque in the arteries.

Symptoms


  • Pain or discomfort in the affected limb, especially during exercise
  • Pain that goes away with rest, known as "claudication"
  • Pain that becomes constant, known as "rest pain"
  • Numbness or weakness in the affected limb
  • Ulcers on the affected limb
  • Shiny or discolored skin on the legs
  • Slow-growing toenails
  • Hair loss or slower hair growth on the legs
  • Erectile dysfunction
