Peripheral artery disease (PAD) is a chronic condition that occurs when arteries narrow or become blocked, reducing blood flow to the legs or arms. It's usually caused by atherosclerosis, a buildup of plaque in the arteries.
Symptoms
Pain or discomfort in the affected limb, especially during exercise
Pain that goes away with rest, known as "claudication"
Pain that becomes constant, known as "rest pain"
Numbness or weakness in the affected limb
Ulcers on the affected limb
Shiny or discolored skin on the legs
Slow-growing toenails
Hair loss or slower hair growth on the legs
